With the unfortunate shortening of the 2020 high school lacrosse season due to Covid-19, TLR worked behind the scenes through May and June to find a way to still get the area’s senior boys and girls together for one last set of games. Once the guys behind the Tampa Summer Jam offered up their location, things fell into place.
We continued working, planning, and scheduling everything we could in the hopes that the state or county would allow the event to take place. What has historically been a single boys game and single girls game comprising the best seniors in the area, 2020 would instead be extended into a 2-day event featuring as many seniors as we could get. We wanted something special for their last memory of high school lacrosse.
July 18 and 19 at the gorgeous Tournament Sportsplex of Tampa Bay – during the annual Tampa Summer Jam – Tampa Lax Report’s 2020 Senior Weekend featured 4 teams of boys and 2 teams of girls. 135 Tampa-area seniors had the opportunity for one last high school event. Big thanks to our 2020 sponsors: Red’s Team Sports, Mastro Subaru, and James Broome Photography. James’s photographs from the event are online and free to download.
The sidelines were packed both days, with Sunday’s games being held on the stadium field. On the boys side, defensive MVP went to Northside Christian goalie Jadon Terzi, offensive MVP was awarded to Drew Snyder of Cardinal Mooney, and overall boys MVP was Berkeley Prep’s Colby Kudla. On the girls side, defensive MVP was Rose Haneke of Berkeley Prep, offensive MVP was Newsome’s Ally Crusey, and overall MVP was Plant’s Katherine Popp.
