Week 4
- Steinbrenner (7-0) – Welcome to #1 spot lady Warriors! With 2 games played this week winning at home 23-2 against District 10 opponent Wiregrass (6-2) and the game of the season – so far – a 9-6 road victory over powerhouse Newsome (7-2). This young team has definitely answered the challenge and earned the #1 spot in this poll. We will not be surprised to see these teams match up again in Region 3 Finals. Get used to seeing Steinbrenner girls at the top of the polls for a while. They are a young, talented squad.
- Newsome (7-2) – Newsome girls played 2 games this week, beating Sickles on the road 17-3 and coming up a little short 9-6 at home to the surprising Steinbrenner team. The lady Wolves are 3-0 in district play so far and are favored to win District 11. They may get another shot at Steinbrenner again in Regional 3 Finals. We are sure the lady Wolves will be looking forward to the rematch.
- Plant (6-2) – The Plant girls added 2 more comfortable wins (4th in a row) this week – a 19-0 road win over Bloomingdale and a 14-3 home victory over Sickles. The lady Panthers are a perfect 5-0 in District 10 and hold #1 seed.
- Mitchell (8-1) – Two road victories last week: 19-4 over Wesley Chapel and 8-7 over Cypress Creek in a close one. The lady Mustangs are 2-1 in District 9 and look to hold 2nd or 3rd seed with only Wiregrass to play. With their only loss to #1 Steinbrenner, the Mitchell girls are having one of their best seasons and hoping to make some noise in District playoffs.
- Sunlake (7-2) – Sunlake girls added 3 more wins to their total this week: a home 11-9 win over East Lake, 10-3 home win over Clearwater, and forfeit (1-0) win over Palm Harbor University. The lady Seahawks are holding #5 spot in our poll and are 2-1 in district play. They should land #3 seed in a very tough District 9.
Week 3
- Newsome (6-1) – Great week for the lady Wolves with 2 comfortable wins over Manatee and Durant, Senior Ally Crusey becoming the new all-time points leader (371 and counting) and ending with Head Coach Chris Crusey getting married. Congrats Coach! If that is not enough, we have the long-awaited matchup for top area team in 2A on Thursday, March 12 hosting the young upstarts of Steinbrenner. This is a must-see game. Can the lady Wolves hold on to #1? That question will be answered on Thursday starting at 5pm.
- Steinbrenner (5-0) – The lady Warriors had a good week beating an undefeated Mitchell team (16-1) and then dispatching (TLR #1 in 1A) Berkeley Prep 11-2 proving they are here to stay. This young team has a stifling defense that does not give up many goals (only 8 in the 5 games). The battle for #1 in 2A will be settled this Thursday 5pm vs a battle tested Newsome team. Top level talent on both teams will be a game to see.
- Plant (4-2) – The Plant girls were not challenged this week with 2 comfortable wins over St. Petersburg and East Lake. More of the same this upcoming week facing Bloomingdale and Sickles. Plant should be at 6-2 by weeks end. Big rival game with Newsome coming up on March 24th should be fun to watch.
- Mitchell (6-1) – Up and down week for the lady Mustangs with tough 16-1 loss to District 9 2A leaders Steinbrenner on Tuesday night followed by a big 20-2 win over Pasco on Thursday. Three road games on the schedule next week; winless Wesley Chapel Tuesday, tough Cypress Creek (5-2) Thursday, and ending on Saturday with TLR #4 in 1A Tampa Catholic (4-2). We don’t see Mitchell getting knocked out of top 5 next week.
- Sunlake (4-2) – Big 9-7 road win over District 9 rival Wiregrass Ranch last Thursday night moves the lady Seahawks into our top 5 this week. Congratulations ladies! Looks like Sunlake girls may hold 3rd seed in District 9 with only 1 district game remaining. Three home games on the schedule next week; East Lake, Clearwater, and Palm Harbor. Can they hold the slippery #5 spot? We will see.
Week 2
- Newsome (4-1) – The Newsome girls hold the #1 spot despite their 12-8 loss to a power house Ponte Vedra team on Saturday who are considered one of the best teams in the State. The Lady Wolves have another 3 games scheduled this coming week with ODA, Manatee, and Durant. We do not expect them to be challenged until they meet the upstart Steinbrenner team on 3/12 and arch rival Plant on 3/24.
- Steinbrenner (3-0) – The Lady Warriors played 2 games (Sunlake and Wharton) last week, both of which they won comfortably. March 3rd they will be facing an undefeated Mitchell (5-0) that want to prove they can compete with the top teams. Then on Saturday, March 7th, they meet up with a very talented Berkeley Prep (3-1) squad which is TLR’s #1 in 1A. This week will show if this young Warrior team can hold up to the rigors of High School play. Big matchup also coming up with #1 Newsome on March 12th will be a game not to be missed.
- Plant (2-2) – The Plant girls got back to their winning ways last week with 2 easy victories over District 10 rivals Palm Harbor University and Alonso. Although it is early we do not see Plant challenged in District 10 play and expect them to hold top spot. The lady Panthers ended play this week on Saturday afternoon to the state contending Ponte Vedra Sharks (6-1) with a 14-3 loss. Upcoming games next week with East Lake (2-1) and Bloomingdale (2-1) should not change their position. Big rival game with Newsome coming up on March 24th should be fun to watch.
- Mitchell (5-0) – Good week for the lady Mustangs staying undefeated with 3 straight wins vs Wharton, Sunlake and Lake Gibson move them up to #4. Big road game coming up March 3rd with the young and talented District 9 rival Steinbrenner (3-0) will determine #1 in District 9. This will be a top game to see next week. Mitchell girls want to prove they are for real and are here to stay.
- Wiregrass Ranch (4-0) – Welcome to the top 5. The lady Bulls had a good week with 2 comfortable wins over River Ridge and Wesley Chapel, staying undefeated. This week will determine if they can hold this spot with a game against Lake Wales (2-1) and a tough Sunlake (2-2) team looking to get back on track.
Week 1
- Newsome (2-0) – The Newsome girls had a good week beating Robinson 21-5 and following up with an 18-7 win over a very good Berkeley Prep team. Three games on the schedule this week will end with home game vs Ponte Vedra on Saturday. Will be a great indicator of where this team will be.
- Steinbrenner (1-0) – The Lady Warriors sent a message this week with their dominant 12-3 win over Plant. The Steinbrenner girls have not beaten Plant since 2016 in the first round of regional play in a very close 10-9 game at Plant. Since that time Steinbrenner has lost 8 straight games to the Lady Panthers. Is this game a fluke or is this the new order? The warriors are loaded with young talent and we only see them getting better. Match ups with Berkeley Prep and Newsome in the next few weeks should be very telling. This could be the surprise team of 2020.
- Plant (0-1) – Surprising loss to Steinbrenner this week and no other games played. 3 games coming up this week with Ponte Vedra coming in on Saturday 29th. Should be interesting to see how they respond. Plant has always had tons of talent but may need some time to adjust to playing without the dominant Lexi Ashby (’19) who is currently playing for the Florida Gators in Division 1.
- Lakewood Ranch (2-0) – The Lady Mustangs cruised to two comfortable wins last week over Sarasota and St. Stephen’s. Three games on the schedule for this week: Cardinal Mooney, Manatee and Out-of-Door. All winnable games do not expect to see them lose next week.
- Mitchell (2-0) – Mitchell girls had 2 comfortable wins this past week over Clearwater and Calvary Christian. This team just keeps getting better every year. With 3 games coming up this week against Wharton, Sunlake, and Lake Gibson, we will see if they can hold this position. Could be 5-0 at the end of week 2.
