District 9
- Steinbrenner – The Warriors finished 6-2 in 2020 with their two losses coming at the hands of Plant and Newsome, the two other #1’s on this list.
- Mitchell – Numbers 2 through 4 are pretty difficult as they beat each other and lost to each other somewhat randomly. Mitchell looks the best out of them and takes the #2 spot.
- Sunlake – 2020 was a nice surprise from Sunlake. Nice showing. We’re hoping they stay on track and continue to battle for the #2 spot in District 9 in 2021.
- East Lake – East Lake was another surprising team last season. We could have easily put them at 3. Maybe even 2. Like we said, 2 through 3 are all pretty closely matched.
District 10
- Plant – The Panthers finished 9-1 in 2020 with their sole loss being a 3-2 game against Riverview that surprised many. The tougher teams were scheduled later and didn’t get played. They shouldn’t have any trouble in 2021 (they had 4 players in TLR’s Players to Watch) with their district matchups and will likely be the #1 team in 2A for 2021.
- Alonso – Alonso looked solid in 2020 dropping only a single game to the top-rated Plant squad. Stronger opponents like Steinbrenner and Newsome ended up being cancelled. The Ravens placed 2 players in our Players to Watch list and may be hitting their peak this season.
- Sickles – The Gryphons surprised a lot of locals by finishing just 3-5 in 2020. To be fair, their schedule was certainly front loaded. TLR is anticipating Sickles will bounce back and look better in 2021.
- Lakewood Ranch – Lakewood Ranch only got in a single district game before the season ended in 2020. That makes our job pretty difficult. Based on their performance against out of district opponents, we’ve placed them at the 4th spot.
District 11
- Newsome – The Wolves went 4-0 in district play and 8-0 overall in 2020. Their very next scheduled game got cancelled with the remainder of the season, but was on the road against Plant. That was one TLR circled and could have been quite a game. Newsome should have no trouble with District 11 again in 2021.
- Bloomingdale – Bloomingdale finished 2020 3-1 in district play. They’ve got a tough road ahead if they want to go toe-to-toe with Newsome, but that’s what we play for – the chance to take the top spot.
- Bartow – Bartow finished 6-1 in 2020, surprising a few people. Their only loss was a 3-point game to Bloomingdale. Spots 2-4 in District 11 are tight!
- Lakeland – Lakeland suffered two district losses in 2020 – one to Newsome and the other to Bartow. They are a newcomer, but have certainly earned a spot in the Top 4.
