End of Regular Season
- Cardinal Mooney (10-5) – Mooney took care of both Springboro (OH) and Montverde last week, adding two more wins to their record. The Cougars are the top seed in district 11, #1 in region 3, and the #5 team in the state.
- Jesuit (11-4) – The Tigers fought their way to a huge win against rivals Plant last week, 14-13. They are the top seed in district 9, #3 in region 3, and the #9 team in the state. A rematch of their regular season meeting against Cardinal Mooney, but this time in the region 3 playoffs, would be a game both teams would relish.
- Calvary Christian (11-1) – Calvary finished regular season with two more in the ‘win’ column. They are the top seed in district 10, #5 in region 3, and the #12 team in the state. TLR believes our top 3 teams on this list will all advance to regional playoffs as district champions.
- Berkeley Prep (6-9) – The Buccaneers finished regular season with one of the more difficult schedules in the area. They are the #2 seed in district 9 behind Jesuit, #7 in region 3, and #30 in the state. If Berkeley finishes runners-up in their district, they have a solid chance to advance into the regionals as one of the four at-large teams.
- Osceola (7-5) – Osceola split their two games last week, beating Countryside, but dropping their match New Jersey’s St. Joseph Regional. They are the #3 seed in district 10 behind both Calvary and Northside Christian. They are #11 in region 3, which means they have to earn an upset or two to advance into regional playoffs this season.
Week 7
- Cardinal Mooney (10-4) – Another two-win week for the Cougars as they defeat both Springboro from Ohio and Orlando’s Montverde Academy. Just a single game on their schedule next week; Delaware’s Salesianum.
- Jesuit (9-4) – The Tigers finished the week with two wins; 12-11 against Springboro (Ohio) and a strong 18-6 win against FL #28 Columbus from Miami. Next week, Jesuit hosts Tampa Prep, then finishes regular season with the annual Ihrig-Shaler Cup game against rivals Plant. This year, Plant will host on April 5 @ 7:00 p.m.
- Calvary Christian (9-1) – Our poll gets dicey here as Calvary lost to Osceola last week. Calvary beat Berkeley. Berkeley beat Osceola. This makes things very difficult for us. No matter the order, someone will be upset. For now, TLR will leave things as-is. Osceola and Calvary will get to see each other again in districts. Calvary finishes regular season hosting both Forest and Northside Christian, then travels to Bishop Verot.
- Berkeley Prep (5-7) – Last week, we mentioned Berkeley traveling to FL #14 Vero Beach and FL #1 St. Andrew’s. As expected, the Bucs lost both games, but did add a game against Estero, which they won easily. Next week, Berkeley travels to TLR #1 Plant, then hosts Alonso before finishing on the road to FL #26 Bishop Verot.
- Osceola (6-4) – As noted in the entry for Calvary Christian, ranking Calvary, Berkeley, and Osceola became very difficult after Osceola beat Calvary Christian 7-6 last week. Placing them ahead of Calvary seems logical, except that also means placing them ahead of a team Osceola lost to (Berkeley). For now, we are leaving the polls as they are, especially since they happen to match LaxNumbers’ rankings. Next week, Osceola hosts both Countryside and New Jersey’s St. Joseph Regional.
Week 6
- Cardinal Mooney (8-4) – Last week, the Cougars faced IMG, Benjamin School and Oxbridge Academy. Their only loss was to FL #4 Benjamin, which says a lot about Mooney this season. Next week they’ll host Springboro from Ohio, then travel to central Florida to face FL #14 Montverde.
- Jesuit (7-4) – The Tigers showed no trouble at all with either Riverview or Belen Jesuit last week, winning both games easily. However, they finished the week by hosting national powerhouse Gonzaga and dropped that game 18-9. Next week has Jesuit hosting FL 2A #6 Columbus, which should be a very good game if you can make it.
- Calvary Christian (8-0) – Calvary is still undefeated, taking care of both St. Pete Catholic as well as a tough FL 2A #9 Gulf Breeze in a tight 1-goal game. Calvary hosts Osceola on Thursday next week.
- Berkeley Prep (4-5) – No games for the Bucs last week due to Spring Break, but things heat up next week with a game against Estero at home, then they’ll be on the road to FL #14 Vero Beach and FL #1 St. Andrew’s.
- Osceola (5-3) – Osceola dropped their game against FL #24 Lakewood Ranch last week. Week 7 has them first hosting out of state Shipley School (PA), then traveling to TLR #3 / FL #19 Calvary Christian. Neither game will be easy.
Week 5
- Cardinal Mooney (6-3) – The Cougars split their games in week 5, losing by 1 on the road to FL #7 Community School of Naples, but rebounding to knock off former TLR #1 Jesuit on the road in overtime. That win moves them to #1 on our Top 5. Things don’t get easier next week as Mooney hosts IMG, then travels to both FL #4 Benjamin School and FL #11 Oxbridge Academy.
- Jesuit (5-3) – It’s been a rough 3 game stretch for the Tigers as all 3 have been losses. TLR doesn’t see this trend continuing, though. Their OT loss to former TLR #2 Cardinal Mooney does force us to switch both teams, however. Week 6 shows Jesuit on the road to Riverview, then hosting FL #21 Belen Jesuit.
- Calvary Christian (6-0) – Calvary was on Spring Break last week, so no scores to report. Next week Calvary is on the road to St. Pete Catholic, then hosts both Northside Christian and FL 2A #11 Gulf Breeze.
- Berkeley Prep (4-5) – The Bucs were supposed to host 2 games last week, but one was cancelled. They defeated FL #37 Riverview at home 11-6. No games next week due to Spring Break, but the following week begins a seriously difficult road stretch against FL #13 Vero Beach, FL #1 St. Andrew’s, and FL #5 Plant.
- Osceola (5-2) – No games to report last week due to Spring Break. Next week shows Osceola hosting TLR 2A #3 (and FL #27) Lakewood Ranch.
Week 4
- Jesuit (5-1) – No games for the Tigers last week. Next week shows Jesuit on the road to St. Pete Catholic, then hosting our #2 team Cardinal Mooney on Wednesday. This is always a great game and you should catch it if you can.
- Cardinal Mooney (5-2) – As we predicted in the last poll, Mooney sits at 5-2 after wins against Lakewood Ranch and Berkeley Prep, but losing to a likely final 4 team in Lake Mary. The Cougars are on the road next week to FL #8 Community School of Naples as well as FL #10 Jesuit.
- Calvary Christian (6-0) – Calvary heads into their Spring Break after road wins last week against Tampa Catholic and Berkeley Prep. No games next week.
- Berkeley Prep (3-5) – The Bucs suffered losses last week to two teams above them; FL #9 Cardinal Mooney and FL #19 Calvary Christian. Berkeley bounced back to finish out the week with a win against FL #31 Sickles.
- Osceola (5-2) – Osceola suffered a 14-11 loss to Palm Harbor University last week, then handled Northeast on the road to split their two games. Spring Break for them next week.
Week 3
- Jesuit (5-1) – The Tigers dropped their first game of the season, but it was on the road to FL #2 Lake Mary. There is a chance that may be the only game Jesuit loses during the regular season. Although, they do have both FL #6 Columbus and FL #5 Plant still to come later.
- Cardinal Mooney (3-1) – Mooney hosted FL #13 Newsome last week and took the win 11-7. The Cougars host Lakewood Ranch and Berkeley Prep next week, then travel to a very good FL #2 Lake Mary to end the week. Mooney may be 5-2 after week 4.
- Calvary Christian (4-0) – The Warriors were still rolling last week, defeating both Out-of-Door and Mitchell. Calvary is looking very impressive. Next week, Calvary is on the road for both Tampa Catholic and Berkeley Prep.
- Berkeley Prep (2-3) – The Buccaneers dropped both of their road games against FL #8 Bishop Moore and FL #20 Canterbury last week. Week 4 shows them on the road to FL #12 Cardinal Mooney, hosting FL #31 Calvary, and hosting Sickles.
- Osceola (4-1) – Osceola booked two more wins last week against Cypress Creek and St. Petersburg. Next week, the Warriors are on the road against Palm Harbor and Northeast.
Week 2
- Jesuit (4-0) – The Tigers are 4-0 after week 2 wins against both IMG and Berkeley Prep. Next week games are against FL #25 Steinbrenner and a road game against FL #3 Lake Mary.
- Cardinal Mooney (2-1) – Mooney dropped a 1-goal road game to TLR #1 Plant last week, but finished with a win against FL #23 Viera. Next week’s game is against FL #12 Newsome.
- Calvary Christian (2-0) – Calvary did not play games in week 2.
- Berkeley Prep (2-1) – The Buccaneers lost their road game to TLR’s #1 Jesuit last week. Week 3 has them scheduled against FL #10 Bishop Moore on the road, then hosting FL #20 Canterbury.
- Osceola (2-1) – The Warriors enjoyed a nice home win against East Lake in week 2. Next week are games against Cypress Creek and St. Petersburg.
Week 1
- Jesuit (2-0) – The Tigers took down Wesley Chapel and Newsome in week 1. They have IMG and Berkeley next week. Depending upon which IMG team they get, they should be 4-0 after week 2.
- Cardinal Mooney (1-0) – The Cougars only faced Steinbrenner in week 1, but won convincingly. They are on the road this week against Plant and Viera. If you can make the Plant game, you should. It’s always a great game.
- Calvary Christian (2-0) – Calvary really unloaded on Alonso in week 1 and booked a win against PHU. As expected, they look strong. They will be on the road against Cypress Creek in week 2.
- Berkeley Prep (2-0) – The Buccaneers are off to a solid start in ’24, with home wins against both Cypress Creek and rival Osceola. Their schedule gets much tougher after this, though.
- Osceola (1-1) – The Warriors are solid again this year. They beat St. Pete Catholic easily in week 1, but suffered a single-goal loss on the road to Berkeley Prep. East Lake and Cypress Creek on the books for week 2.
Pre-Season
- Jesuit (0-0) – The Jesuit crew seems to always be a contender. They finished atop this list last season and we expect them to repeat in 2024. Always a deep team with tons of weapons.
- Cardinal Mooney (0-0) – The Cougars had a stellar season in 2023, but TLR expects even more from them this year as they graduated only a single senior from last year’s squad.
- Calvary Christian (0-0) – Calvary loses three very talented seniors from last year’s squad, but continues to be well coached and fundamentally solid top to bottom.
- Osceola (0-0) – The Warriors lose nine seniors due to graduation, so it is difficult to predict how the rest of the team will adapt. They’ve surprised us for the last couple of years, though. We hope it continues.
- St. Stephen’s (0-0) – With 11 seniors gone from last year’s team (and a handful of top performers at that), TLR expects a drop off from what the Falcon’s showed us in 2023. We aren’t counting them out, though.
