Week 7
- Jesuit (11-2) – The Tigers handled each of their Florida opponents with ease last week, but did accumulate a second loss – this one to Maryland’s #16 team Our Lady of Good Counsel by a score of 9-6. Jesuit finishes regular season with their annual matchup against TLR #1 Plant. The game this year will be held at Jesuit on April 4 at 7:00 p.m. and is always worth the time.
- Calvary Christian (8-4) – The Warriors beat Lakeland and Montverde Academy last week. The last week of regular season shows them hosting Cypress Creek, Lakewood Ranch, then traveling to play a very strong FL #13 Canterbury squad.
- Berkeley Prep (7-6) – Berkeley beat Sunlake and Naples last week, but dropped their road game against FL #9 Community School of Naples. The will finish regular season by traveling to Riverview, then hosting TLR #4 Cardinal Mooney.
- Cardinal Mooney (3-10) – The Cougars earned a third win last week by taking down a surprisingly good Manatee team 7-6 on the road. However, they also dropped matches against FL #3 Bishop Moore and FL #12 Newsome. Their last week shows Mooney traveling to Montverde Academy and TLR #3 Berkeley Prep.
- Osceola (10-4) – The Warriors earned a 10-6 win over East Lake and a close 9-8 win over Delaware’s Tower Hill. The final week of regular season shows Osceola at home against Sarasota and Northeast.
Week 6
No changes due to spring break.
Week 5
- Jesuit (8-1) – The Tigers handled both Riverview and TLR #4 Cardinal Mooney last week to remain at the top of our 1A poll. No games next week due to spring break.
- Calvary Christian (6-4) – The Warriors earned two more wins last week, defeating both Bishop Verot and district foe Osceola. No games next week due to spring break.
- Berkeley Prep (5-5) – As expected, the Bucs split their games last week, dropping their home game against TLR #1 and FL #5 Plant, then beating FL #17 Lakewood Ranch. No games next week due to spring break.
- Cardinal Mooney (2-7) – We said last week that Mooney might finish week 5 as the best 2-7 team in the state. We weren’t being hyperbolic. LaxNumbers currently shows the Cougars as #24 in the state. Next week, Mooney hosts Westlake (Texas #4) and FL #3 Bishop Moore, then travels to FL #18 Vero Beach. Another tough stretch for Cardinal Mooney.
- Osceola (8-4) – The Warriors split their games last week, earning a win against St. Petersburg, but then dropping their road matchup against TLR #2 Calvary Christian. No games next week due to spring break.
Week 4
- Jesuit (6-1) – The Tigers went 2-1 in week 4, losing their first game of the season to FL #2 Saint Andrew’s. Week 5 shows Jesuit on the road to Riverview, then hosting TLR #4 Cardinal Mooney. We don’t anticipate Jesuit giving up their #1 spot during regular season, and likely well into playoffs.
- Calvary Christian (4-4) – The Warriors split their two games last week, beating TLR #3 Berkeley Prep then dropping their match against TLR #1 and FL #4 Plant. Next week, Calvary hosts Bishop Verot. This game is FL #23 (Calvary) vs FL #26 (Verot) and should be a solid game. Calvary then travels to district foe and TLR #5 Osceola.
- Berkeley Prep (4-4) – Berkeley Prep also split their two games last week, dropping their road game to TLR #2 Calvary Christian, but finishing the week with a home win against Palm Harbor University. The Bucs face a tough week next week when they host FL #4 / TLR #1 Plant, then host a very strong Lakewood Ranch squad.
- Cardinal Mooney (2-5) – We said last week that Mooney was in for a tough week. We weren’t wrong as the Cougars dropped their games against both Community School of Naples and Mitchell. Definitely not an easy week for them. Next week, Cardinal Mooney hosts 2024 Tennessee #4 Briarcrest Christian as well as FL #5 / TLR #1 Jesuit. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Mooney being perhaps the strongest 2-7 team in Florida after next week.
- Osceola (7-3) – Osceola went 2-1 last week, beating both Palm Harbor University and Countryside, but dropping their match against TLR #5 Manatee. Next week shows Osceola traveling to St. Petersburg, then hosting TLR #2 Calvary Christian in what could end up being a good game to watch.
Week 3
- Jesuit (4-0) – Jesuit only played a single game last week, but it was a 12-8 win over IMG on the road. Next week, Jesuit hosts TLR #3 Mitchell, then makes an overnight road trip to the southeast for games against FL 2A #26 Vero Beach and FL 1A #4 Saint Andrew’s.
- Calvary Christian (3-3) – Calvary’s two games last week were both on the road and ended with a 13-2 loss to IMG and a 12-6 win over Palm Harbor University. Next week has the Warriors hosting TLR #3 Berkeley Prep, then traveling to TLR #1 Plant.
- Berkeley Prep (3-3) – The Buccaneers split their two games last week, booking a 14-9 win over a surging TLR #5 Osceola, then dropping a 5-goal loss to FL 1A #13 Canterbury. Berkeley will be on the road to TLR #2 Calvary Christian next week, then hosting Palm Harbor University.
- Cardinal Mooney (2-3) – Mooney earned a 13-8 win over Riverview to start week 3, then followed that up with an 11-8 win over a tough Lakewood Ranch team. Next week shows Cardinal Mooney traveling to FL 1A #11 Community School of Naples team, then hosting TLR #3 Mitchell. Two tough games.
- Osceola (5-2) – We mentioned last week that the difference between Osceola and Northside Christian was pretty thin. And as we said, it would be decided on the field as it should be. Congratulations to Osceola on the win and being added to the Top 5. Osceola lost 15-9 to TLR #3 Berkeley Prep, but then won a defensive 6-3 game over our previous #5 Northside Christian. Next week, Osceola hosts Palm Harbor University, then travels to Countryside, and finally hosts a very strong Manatee team.
Week 2
- Jesuit (3-0) – The Tigers took down TLR #2 Newsome and TLR #3 Berkeley Prep last week, showing that they are again a force to be reckoned with in Tampa. Next week, Jesuit is on the road against IMG on Friday.
- Calvary Christian (2-2) – The Warriors fell to a strong TLR #3 Mitchell, then bounced back with a 12-point victory over Steinbrenner last week. Next week Calvary visits both IMG and Palm Harbor University.
- Berkeley Prep (2-2) – The Buccaneers’ two losses so far have come against 2024 FL #10 (Bishop Moore) and 2024 FL #7 (Jesuit). Their two wins were against TLR 2A #4 (Sickles) and TLR #5 (Northside Christian). Berkeley is playing a very tough schedule so far and it doesn’t stop next week as the Bucs host Osceola and Canterbury – both should be tough games.
- Cardinal Mooney (1-3) – The Cougars fell last week to Bishop Verot by a single goal, but followed that up with a 13-8 home win against Riverview. Next week shows Mooney on the road against a very strong Lakewood Ranch squad. TLR did not expect to see Cardinal Mooney beginning their 2025 season 0-3, but there are a lot of games left.
- Northside Christian (3-1) – NCS has 3 wins so far, with one coming against a strong Lakewood Ranch squad. Their only loss so far was to TLR #3 Berkeley Prep by a score of 8-6. We thought about Osceola in this spot, but Osceola lost to Lakewood Ranch by 10 last week. But all of that doesn’t matter much as both of these teams play each other next week and it will be settled on the field as it should. Catch Osceola at Northside Christian on the 28th as it should be a great game.
Week 1
- Jesuit (1-0) – With Calvary beating Mooney a few days prior, TLR decided to spend Valentine’s Day attending Jesuit’s hosting of Calvary – hoping for a close game. Instead, it was a statement from the Tigers that they are head and shoulders above nearly every other team in Tampa. Jesuit controlled all facets of the game, looked deep and talented, and had serious playmakers scattered throughout the field. TLR believes that any losses Jesuit is dealt prior to regionals will come from elite teams from outside of the TLR coverage area. They easily maintain their #1 spot.
- Calvary Christian (1-1) – Calvary surprised a few people by beginning their season knocking off Cardinal Mooney. They then faced an even more difficult task of playing Jesuit on the road – which didn’t go as well as they hoped. Calvary looked like a somewhat solid team, but Jesuit did force Calvary into some unforced errors, mistakes, and made them play from behind all game. Calvary Christian is still a solid team right now and move up to the #2 spot due to their victory over Cardinal Mooney.
- Cardinal Mooney (0-2) – The Cougars are struggling early in 2025. Following the departure of long time head coach Derek Wagner, this is a new team. Mooney even lost a few players due to transfers in the off-season. TLR hopes they are able to right the ship and continue being a team that is dangerous on the field for every match. This week, Cardinal Mooney drops to the #3 spot in our poll, but may drop further if they can’t find a new gear. If MaxPreps isn’t wrong, the Cougars’ next two games are against Bishop Verot.
- Berkeley Prep (1-1) – The Buccaneers opened the season with a game against 2024 Florida #14 Bishop Moore – and it didn’t go well for them. The Bucs did bounce back with a win over a strong 2025 Sickles squad to split their first two games. Berkeley holds onto the 4th spot on this list after week 1 games.
- Osceola (3-0) – Osceola is out of the gate with 3 wins in week 1, including a 10-5 win over a solid Savannah Country Day team from Georgia. This is a great start to the season for them. Their next two games are against Lakewood Ranch and Berkeley Prep. With wins there, they will jump up (at least) to the 4th spot on our polls.
Pre-Season
- Cardinal Mooney (0-0) – The Cougars impressed a lot of fans last season by advancing to the Florida Elite 8. They lost to eventual state runners-up Community School of Naples. While Mooney graduated 11 seniors from that impressive squad, a similar number of seniors graduated from most of the teams on this list. As such, we will be leaving Cardinal Mooney atop this preseason list just as they finished in 2024.
- Jesuit (0-0) – Jesuit advanced to the Florida Sweet 16 in 2024, and like Mooney, was stopped by Community School of Naples. The Tigers graduated 12 seniors from their ’24 team, but have made a solid habit out of finding, developing, and implementing quality younger players to help the team pick up where they left off. We don’t expect to see anything less from the Tigers this year.
- Calvary Christian (0-0) – Calvary also advanced to the Sweet 16 in ’24. They were derailed by Jesuit in the Regional Semifinal 13-4. Calvary will be without 10 of their seniors from last year, with more than a few being true playmakers. However, they have always fielded a quality team and Tampa Lax Report expects the same thing heading into 2025. We certainly expect them to finish the season on our top 5 list.
- Berkeley Prep (0-0) – The Buccaneers lost 11 seniors from last year’s team, which seems to be the average on this list. They will be fielding a smaller squad in ’25, but should demonstrate a good across-the-board talent level this season. With the FHSAA adjustments made in the off-season, Berkeley should be battling for the district title against either Calvary Christian or Osceola.
- Osceola (0-0) – While Osceola only lost 6 seniors from last year, their names were spread all over our Player of the Week lists in ’24. That talent will be hard to replace, but right now, Tampa Lax Report doesn’t see another team (yet) that should be in the 5th spot on this list. Perhaps Northside Christian could make some waves this season and show up here. We’ll see.
