District 5
- Cypress Creek – 15-5 in 2021 – ran in to a tough matchup in regional play facing State Runner-Up Lake Highland Prep. Although the Lady Coyotes Lost some great senior talent, they still have plenty of talented players to repeat as District 5 1A Champions for 2022. Talented player and Mount Olive commit Attack Avery Smith (82 goals scored in 2021) should lead them in goals scored again in 2022. IMG Academy on Saturday Feb 19th on the road should be a good test for them.
- Sunlake – 7-6 in 2021, they are a newcomer to District 5 in 2022, we are sure they are glad to be out of District 9 2A with State Semi-Finalist Steinbrenner. The Lady Seahawks still retain their leading goal scorer from the 2021 season Junior midfielder Izzy Eby (40 goals in 2021). It would definitely be a surprise for them to unseat Cypress Creek.
- River Ridge – 2-7 in 2021 as an Independent. They will be competing in District 5 playoffs this season for the first time.
- Wesley Chapel – 5-6 in 2021 – Could definitely challenge River Ridge for 3rd spot in District 5, but not enough to compete for top spot yet.
District 9
- Calvary Christian – 6-6 in 2021 the Lady Warriors were the only team to stay in District 9 1A from last season. Losing stellar Sr. goal keeper Maggie Wroe to graduation is going to be tough to overcome, but they did pick up East Lake Junior Lauren Holthaus. This could be the year that the lady Warriors get their first district title. The Lady Warriors are testing themselves early with a road game vs Cypress Creek on Feb 17th.
- St. Petersburg – 8-6 in 2021 and moved from a tough District 10 2A that had powerhouse Plant. The Lady Green Devils are in their third year of district play after being independent for years prior. They have played a very competitive schedule and have beaten some good teams (19-10 win over Sickles). We expect them to give Calvary Christian a tough challenge in district playoffs. The Lady Green Devils are only showing 8 games on their schedule (MaxPreps) at the time of this publication. Home game vs Tampa Catholic on April 2nd may be a good indicator of their talent level this season.
- Osceola – 4-10 in 2021 as an independent. Will be tough for this team to knock off Calvary Christian or St. Petersburg based on their matchups from last year.
- Northeast – 5-5 in 2021 as an independent. Newer program (3rd year) looking to build may take some time before they compete for a district title.
District 10
- Academy of Holy Names – 11-3 in 2021. This could be the best team the Lady Jags have ever had. Losing only 2 seniors, the Lady Jags have plenty of talent all the way thru to make a long run if they can get past Berkeley Prep in Districts. Led by 2022 TRL Watch-listers Sr. Mid/Draw Specialist Sophia Pyne (Holy Cross) and Jr. Attack Lauren Brown (Vanderbilt), the Lady Jags will get their first real test against Plant at home on Feb 22nd to see if they could be one of the top teams in the area this season. Another game of interest is March 1st vs Berkeley on the road – will be a game to watch.
- Berkeley Prep – 11-4 in 2021 the Lady Bucs captured their first district title as well as a first-round regional win over St. Stephen’s Episcopal. Their 2021 season came to an end with a close 16-15 road loss to Community School of Naples in the regional final. It will be hard for the Lady Bucs to replace the stellar 2021 Midfielder Justyce Barber (William and Mary), but they still have plenty of talent with Sr. Midfielder Anabelle Stifler (Swarthmore) and Junior D/M Finley Jordan – both on TLR 2022 Watchlist. We are looking forward to their home March 1st matchup with Academy of the Holy Names to see who will take top seed in District 10 1A.
- Robinson – 8-10 in 2021. District finalist losing to Berkeley Prep 18-6. The Lady Knights have a talented group of returning 2022 TLR Watchlist Players: Sr. goalkeeper Jessie Ruffue and Sr. Attack Kela Watts (Swarthmore) will help them challenge for a district 10 1A title. Kudos to Coach Crooks for opening with Plant at home on Feb 15th. It will be a tough test for them.
- Tampa Catholic – 12-3 in 2021. Graduating 12 seniors (9 starters) is going to be hard to overcome. The Lady Crusaders still have some talent. It will be interesting to see how they develop throughout the season. Challenging schedule should prepare them well for district playoffs. Tampa Catholic opens at home vs a good Wiregrass team on Feb 15th.
